Calisthenics is an exciting sport that’s a mix of dance, gymnastics, simplified ballet, singing and apparatus

For ages 3yrs+, calisthenics combines the best aspects of sport and the performing arts.


Primarily a team sport, calisthenics teaches participants of all abilities about team work and sportsmanship, while increasing fitness, flexibility, coordination and confidence.


It is our mission to promote the healthy, physical, mental and social involvement of Calisthenics to the Western Australian community.


Each unique team based item improves the overall health, fitness, strength and flexibility of performers, as well as offering skills and benefits to take into everyday life.

There are four competitive and two non-competitive age groups offered in Western Australian calisthenics. The sections have been carefully divided to reflect the stages of development in children and youth. Age groups are determined by the competitors age on the 31st of December in the year of competition and are as follows:

Figure March marching to create complex patterning developing spatial awareness, core strength, rhythm, deportment.

Free Exercises a creative series of strength and flexibility movements developing core strength, flexibility, deportment.

Rod Exercises manipulation of a metal rod with movement developing technical skills, hand-eye coordination, multi-tasking.

Club Swinging  circular swings with clubs developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, multi-tasking, rhythm.

Character Dance – series of dance steps to tell a story developing rhythm, dance, storytelling, acting.

Aesthetic graceful movements technically placed and interpreted developing musical appreciation, grace, poise, emotional expression.

Rhythmical Aesthetic graceful and elevated movements technically placed and interpreted developing rhythm, dance, expressive storytelling, leaps, leg extension for running and other sports.

Song with Action singing with movement & expression developing confidence, vocals, listening, communication, performance skills.

Song and Dance singing with dance and expression developing dance, vocals, stamina, breathing.

Dance Arrangement dance and interpretation developing spatial awareness, elevation, expression, performance skills.

Annual General Meeting Wednesday 12 March 2025 Please be advised that the Annual General Meeting of Calisthenics Association of WA Inc. will be held on Wednesday 12 March 2025 at 7pm, Swan Park Theatre, Midvale. Nominations for Positions on the Board Nominations are called for the following positions on the CAWA Board of Management. Nomination forms are available on the CAWA website Governance page or click here . Nominations must be received by the Secretary of the Association by Wednesday 5 February 2025. President (2 years) Treasurer (2 years) Competitions Committee Chairperson (2 years) In accordance with the CAWA Constitution Item 36. Term of Office (3) The maximum term on the Board is (6) six years. As the current occupants of the President and Competitions Committee Chairperson positions have served on the Board of Management for more than six years, they are ineligible for nomination. Financial Members To be eligible to have voting rights you must be a financial member. Any parent who has a child 18 years of age or over and wishes to vote must be a financial General Member. General Member Affiliation must be completed at least 7 days prior to the AGM. Registration link is on the ‘Club Administration’ page on the website or click here . It is important to note that anyone nominated, nominating or seconding a Board nomination must be a financial member of the Association. Proxy Voting A financial member may appoint an individual who is a financial member as his or her proxy to vote and speak on his or her behalf at an Annual General Meeting or Special Meeting.
